Introduction: Wind Up Photographic camera Pan

Television camera panning is a proficiency where the camera rotates along an bloc, usually horizontal or vertical (sometimes diagonal). Television camera panning can be combined with lapse to produce about fascinating cinematic results. This technique privy be used to get changes over time that are difficult to notice in concrete sentence, like elusive changes in brave or how crowds of people move over clock time.

Using a regular point-and-shoot digital camera I set the camera to video and wound upbound my timer. Here's some footage I compiled with my camera pan, these videos were taken over about 10 minutes and sped upwards to demonstrate the slow cooking pan effect:

Fashioning your own is incredibly simple, entirely you need is a wind-upwardly kitchen timer and a few bits from the ironmongery; mine cost Maine around $4.

materials:
  • scent out-awake timer
  • 1/4" - 20 bushing
  • 1/4" - 20 threaded cut-in
  • 1/4" drilling bit
  • 3/8" practice session bit
 method:
  • Drill 1/4" opening in top of timer
  • Friction fit (or glue) 1/4" bushing into meridian of timekeeper
  • Drill 3/8" opening in bottom of timekeeper for threaded insert
    • Avoid drilling into winding mechanism
  • Friction suitable threaded insert into bottom of timer base

Most altogether cameras with a tripod ride are 1/4" with 20 count threading (coarse threading). If you are unsure you can just take along your camera to the store and try unconscious diametrical bolts until you encounte one that fits your camera.

Formerly assembled the entire thing was mounted connected my tripod and I mark looking for areas that I could use my wind-upwards camera pan on. I found that areas that have slow modification like boats and clouds work swell, as do areas with lots of people equivalent train Stations of the Cross and laboring intersections. There's flock of subjects to capture with this rig, so get out there and gaining control!

This is non an intervelometer (camera winning pictures at rule-governed intervals), this is sped up footage of video taken over with a standard digital camera. Footage can be uploaded and sped up using most any television editing software program.
